IDBI - Polytechnic Ambernath

History

With the help of Industrial Development Bank of India, NAB (I) in 1985 established this technical training institute, to impart on-the-job advanced training in engineering and mass production techniques, to blind youth. This residential Polytechnic has the capacity to admit 60.

 

General Machine Operators

This free of cost 2-year training course imparts theory and practical knowledge that helps the trainees become skilled workers and adapt to industrial environment.

During in-plant training these trainees are given intensive practice on lathe, shaping, milling and drilling machines besides power and hand presses.  They are also trained to operate plastic moulding machines, and handle assembly jobs. To provide such hands-on experience under factory conditions, we accept bulk orders from industrial set-ups. Trainees also receive stipend in the range of Rs.150-300 and are provided free lodge and board facilities.

This course is recognized by the Board of Vocational Examination, Government of Maharashtra.  The final exams are conducted by the Board.

Eligibility: Applicants should be in the age group 18-35 years, should have passed Std.VIII and have good knowledge of Braille. Number of Seats:20

Short-term Vocational Courses

The Polytechnic offers training in making cardboard files, phenyl and candles and operating plastic moulding machine and grain mill.

What can alumni of this Polytechnic do?

On completion of the course these trained visually impaired individuals are assisted in finding remunerative work in the nearby industry.

They can manage assembly of different electrical and mechanical equipment, sorting/inspecting (with the help different types of gauges) jobs, and work as operators on the types of machines mentioned earlier.

What can you do?

The Polytechnic is covered under Grant in Aid scheme of the Government since 1991. In that it receives salary of 15 among 20 staff besides maintenance grant to the tune of Rs.1.5 – 2 lakhs.

The annual expense to run this institution is around Rs.50 lakh.  The grant takes care of only 33% of this expense.  Rest of the outflow is met through donations from philanthropic individuals/institutions.  You can help us bridge this huge gap between income and expenditure by:

  • Employing a blind youth trained at the Polytechnic in your organization
  • Giving us work orders
  • Donating uniforms for the trainees
  • Purchasing our products like office files, phenyl, etc.
  • Giving us your advice on improving the existing training program or designing new job-oriented training programmes to meet market demand.
  • Sponsor a day's meal (Upahaar Yojana) by donating Rs.1500.
  • Sponsoring programmes like sports events, picnics, etc.
