NAB Cyber Café
To enable the visually impaired become self-reliant in terms of the ever-growing information revolution, NAB in 2002 collaborated with Microsoft Corporation to launch India's and perhaps Asia's first ever Cyber Café for the blind, at its head office at Worli Seaface in Mumbai. A year later, NAB tied up with Microsoft to replicate this project at the NAB Sabita and Saradindu Basu Centre for Blind Women, New Delhi.
This Cyber Café is more than a traditional Cyber Café. In that, the 5 computers installed here are fitted with JAWS (Job Access with Speech) for Windows – a screen reading software that provides the visually impaired users access to the information superhighway. They can browse the net, send and receive e-mail, scan pictures, download information, besides making use of other applications.
For those with low vision, MAGic Screen Magnifying Software has been installed on one of the computers. Additional services like scanning and printing are also offered, at cost.
