Community-Based Rehabilitation

After a gap of over ten years, NAB (India) revived its CBR Projects for Socio-economic rehabilitation of the rural blind, with the generous support of Lakecity Ventures Private Ltd. (Vedanta Foundation).

In October 2011, we initiated CBR Projects at three locations – Palnera Block of Tikamgarh District, Madhya Pradesh; Khandapara Block of Nayagarh District, Orissa and Sevapuri Block of Varanasi District, Uttar Pradesh; to be implemented by ‘Bhumika’ Samaj Pragati Sanghthan, Saheed Yuba Sangha and RBR Viklang Kalyankari Shiksha Prasar Samiti, respectively. The overall responsibility of seeing this project through has been entrusted to the NAB Department of Education.

Progress thus far

Orientation of partner agencies to project implementation, recording and reporting formats and selection of project functionaries – field workers, supervisors etc.; training of field functionaries (24 field workers, 3 supervisors and 6 itinerant teachers); door-to-door survey by project functionaries in all three locations to identify non-curably visually challenged persons.
