The Rehabilitation Course
The Rehabilitation Course is a four-month
course conducted thrice a year by the department of rehabilitation.
The only focus of the course is to assist them accept the conditon,
adjust to it, formulate new ways to contribute to society and lead
independent lives. For that, the course is executed in three levels:
Addressing the problem at its root, it helps
the trainees know their true identity, to unleash their potential
and to build confidence in themselves by eroding their doubts, fears
and anxieties and through interaction, cooperation and sharing with
so many others in an identical situation.
Course Admittance & Facilities:
To invite maximum individuals to take advantage of the course, the
department offers the same free of cost. In each batch 16 resident
trainees and 14 days scholar trainees are admitted. The department
till date has been successful in encouraging resident trainees from
all over the country, especially from the rural areas. The resident
trainees, though, hail form Mumbai.
During the course the department provides free boarding and lodging
and a nominal stipend for personal use.
Basic:
The Basic level aims to restore functions of daily life. The activities
executed are household chores like stitching, ironing, cooking and
orientation and mobility (indoor and outdoor).
Social:
At this level, they learn interaction and communication methods,
read Braille, time and the ability to manage basic transaction.
Vocational:
The last but the most important, this level prepares them to manage
small businesses and trade and develop mind co-ordination. The vocation
encompasses training in chair caning, making agarbattis, liquid
soap, candles, brooms and phenol.
