As individuals of society the blind too face everyday issues and problems that need timely and attentive treatment. The NAB Client Services Department, started on April 1, 1994, channelises its funds and focuses its efforts to provide direct assistance and guidance to non-institutional blind individuals to solve their day-to-day problems and difficulties.

From redressal of grievances, to empowerment of women, executing marriage ceremonies to helping deal a divorce, city life issues to personal problems, the department offers help to about 4000 blind individuals every year.

Services offered
Financial assistance: It arranges for finance for the needy and deserving blind individuals for the repair of housing units, medical assistance, hospitalization, self-employment ventures, scholarships for blind students.

Redressal Of Grievances: It takes up various issues with the State or Central Government for redressal of their grievances. At the same time, the Department also takes up complaints of the blind individuals when they are denied concessions/ facilities on account of misinterpretation of the rules.

Supply of Aids and Appliances: It supplies special aids and appliances from its stock, at subsidized rates or for free of cost to deserving blind clients.

Communicative Meetings: The Department organizes Group Meetings of blind individuals to discuss their problems, and makes efforts to solve their difficulties and any unforeseen calamity.


Your benefits, Our Achievements

  • The Department was instrumental in persuading the railway authorities to introduce a Special Compartment for the Handicapped on central and western railway department on 26th Jan. 1994
  • It acquired 50% concession in telephone rentals for blind users, Permanent Identity Card for the Disabled Persons, Railway Concessions in AC III Tier and AC Chair Car for the visually handicapped and various other concessions/ facilities for the blind from the Department of Telecommunications and the Government of India respectively.
  • The department holds Legal Literacy Programs for the Visually Handicapped Women which cover topics like the Indian Legal System, Legal Position of Women, Family Courts and Lok Adalats, Rights of Women, among others.
  • It also organizes weddings of blind couples upon recommendation of the latter
  • The department takes up the responsibility to claim the blind deceased under severe circumstances of absence of family/ relatives/ friends etc. The Department arranges to receive the dead body and perform the last rites.
