Lions Home for Aging Blind

Living alone in a society that still remains
entrenched with preconceptions and has an immature understanding
of the difficulties that aged men encounter everyday can lead to
languor combined with depleting health hazards.
In 1970, NAB established the NAB Lions
Home for The Ageing Blind at Khandala to fulfill the
socio-economic needs of the Ageing Blind men. Since then, the home
has been a benefactor for abundant blind and partially blind men.
In a manner and warmth just like home, it offers all basic amenities
and a lifestyle conducive to a healthy mind and life.
The home admits everyone above the age of 50.
As a resident of the home, NAB will provide:
- Free Boarding & lodging to the men
having blindness below 6/20 vision.
- Keep all its habitants whether blind
or partially blind occupied through Craft programmes and other
recreation activites.
- Foster self-sufficiency by offering them
pocket money between Rs. 50-Rs.500/- per month for making various
products by pursuing activities like weaving, knitting, candle
making chair-making paper craft, embroidery, tailoring, garden
nursery and gardening. Blind persons coming from rural areas are
motivated to take part in growing vegetables, fruits, on the plot
belonging to the home. As an incentive a nursery has been developed
for the sale of plants.
- Medical help from doctors and specialists and emergency help
is offered from the Poona Hospital to all patients.
Apart from these tangible advantages,
NAB endeavours to build mental toughness, confidence and strengthen
their spirit for life through various cultural and social programs.
