Objective
IDBI Polytechnic, a training venture that was started with the financial
assistance from the Industrial Development Bank of India, focuses
to bring about socio-economic independence amongst the blind.
Started on 1st June, 1985 the centre specialises
in imparting free, state of the art technical training about various
trades to blind individuals. During the past one decade and a half
the institute has successfully trained about 500 visually challenged
boys.
Benefits and Government Participation
1. Technical
The only trade, namely the "General Machine operator"
specially drafted by the institute is approved by the Board of Technical
Education, Govt of Maharashtra. At the end of the two-year course,
the Dept. of Vocational Education and Training, Govt of Maharashtra
issues certificates that are worthy of acquiring employment for
the trainees.
2. Financial
Apart from providing free training to the students, the centre offers
every student in a batch of 100 trainees lodging and food and a
monthly allowance ranging Rs. 150-300/- subject to passing periodical
tests. This has been possible due to the Grant-in-Aid only fund
started by the government in 1991, philanthropic societies and corporate
houses.
3. Job Experience
- The institute offers job-oriented operational practice and
training through acquired training-supportive job orders from
local industries on a no loss no profit basis. Eg. The Pal Peugeot,
Mahindra and Mahindra group enrol deserving trainees into the
workforce.
- Through in-plant training centre resembling
one for sighted individuals, the centre provides the trainees
job-oriented extensive training on the general machines so that
they are adapted with industrial environment of 8 hours.
- In a recently set up office file-making
unit visually impaired boys are trained so that they can be
gainfully self employed.
