Cyber
Cafe

The National Association for the Blind is known for innovation. At the start of the 21st century it was observed that the world was becoming a world dominated by Information Technology. As it has always striven for inclusion, NAB wanted the blind to be part of thise movement.

Hence, NAB initiated a unique project in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation, USA. This project involved the setting up of India’s first ever Cyber Café for the blind at Mumbai in 2002. This café housed five computers equipped with state-of-the-art text-to-speech software called JAWS for windows ( JOB ACCESS WITH SPEECH) and Kurzweil 1000 an OCR software that convert print to speech. This cyber café enabled the blind users to work seamlessly on computers including surfing the net.

Similar project was replicated by NAB and Microsoft at Delhi a year later. This is a project that has led to a lot of blind people get acquainted with the computers.
