The NAB Louis Braille Memorial Research Centre houses a specialized library having a rich collection of books, periodicals, seminar reports and research articles pertaining to different aspects in the field of blind welfare. 

The Library was started in 1979 with a modest collection of books received by way of gifts and donations.  It also incorporates all the books from the former NAB Lions Blind Welfare Library.  At present it has a collection of over five thousand titles on varied subjects relating blindness.  It also regularly receives several professional journals and magazines from within India and abroad, including the Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, The British Journal of Visual Impairment, The World Blind, to name a few.

The Library has both lending and reference services. Its clientele mostly comprises of professionals and research scholars.  Membership of the library is open to individuals / institutions, who can be enrolled as life and ordinary members. Individuals/Institutions outside Mumbai are also enrolled, which is a very unique service provided by this library, not easily available elsewhere in the country.

PERIODICALS:


1) Blind Welfare: (in Braille and Ink-print)
A professional Booklet along with News Letter in English published simultaneously three times a year- April, August and December.

2) Vishvadarshan: (Braille)
A special journal for Women published in Hindi Braille three times a year.

3) Vartaman:(Braille)
A fortnightly in Hindi Braille that offers non-political current events.

4) Vigyan Bharati:(Braille)
A first of its kind,this is a specialized quarterly on Science that is published in Hindi Braille.

1) CHITRA MANJUISHA
The Book contains raised pictures with description in Braille for blind children.

2) BHARATI BRAILLE CODE FOR MATHEMATICS
The Book contains symbols in Bharati Braille for new mathematics for students studying up to Std.X.

3) DRISHTIHINO KI SHIKSHA AUR PUNARVASAN (HINDI)
The Monograph contains twenty-two articles on education and rehabilitation of the blind by eminent persons.

4) YADI AAPKI KASHA ME DRISHTIHEEN/DRISHTIBADHIT BALAK HO: SHIKSHAKON KE LIYE SUJHAAV (HINDI)
The Guidebook is in two parts. The first part deals with the issue of a visually handicapped child in the classroom and the second part relates to integrated education of the blind.
It has been translated from "When you have a Visually Handicapped Child in your Classroom - Suggestions for Teachers", American Foundation for the Blind, 1977.

5) A STUDY OF THE TECHNIQUES OF INTRODUCING BRAILLE AND BRAILLE READING
This is a report on the research study of techniques of braille reading adopted by Braille readers. It provides guidelines to teachers and lays down norms for competent Braille reading.

6) BHARATI BRAILLE SHIKSHAK
The Guide Book is intended for teachers of visually handicapped individuals and braille transcribers.

7) HAND BOOK ON ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY
A handbook for Orientation and Mobility Instructors and Social Workers.

8) THE TATA AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR THE BLIND
The book describes the rural experiment started at Phansa (Gujarat) to train blind persons in agricultural and other rural trades.

9) GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO LIVE ANEW
The jobs in which Visually Impaired persons can work are listed in this pamphlet.

10) PLANNING EMPLOYMENT SERVICES FOR THE BLIND IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
The book describes how employment services for the blind can be developed and operated.

11) EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE BLIND
The pamphlet lists different jobs that visually handicapped persons can handle effectively.

12) BRINGING UP BLIND CHILDREN (Pre-school Age 0-5 Years)
The pamphlet provides guidelines to parents on how to bring up a blind child between the age of 0 - 5 years.

13) GUIDELINES FOR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC REHABILITATION OF THE RURAL BLIND
The manual describes procedures for setting up projects for rehabilitation of the rural blind.

14) THE BLIND IN INDIA
The book explains the complexity and magnitude of the problem of blindness.

15) HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE DISABLED
The work is based on United Nations Instruments on Human Rights.

16) OUT OF THE NIGHT
The book includes biographies of some 40 eminent blind persons in India.
